Who invented Pilates?

Pilates was created by Joseph Pilates, born in Germany in 1883. After studying the body, movement and several ancient disciplines, he developed a unique system of exercise — first used to rehabilitate injured soldiers during World War I, then taught in the United States from 1926. Today, Pilates is practised worldwide.
